The Margot Franssen Leadership Award recognizes a woman of accomplishment who combines outstanding leadership in the private or public sector with a passionate commitment to the advancement of women and girls.
Who is Eligible?
Any woman in the Greater Toronto Area who
- is a leader in the private or public sector
- has played a significant role in educating the broader public about the disparity in social and economic conditions of women and girls, and
- has used her leadership role as a lever to create opportunities for women and girls, and/or influence systemic change.

The award winner will
- Demonstrate excellence and innovation in projects that promote awareness, change and tangible results that improve the lives of women and girls
- Leverage resources that assist low income, immigrant and racial minority women and girls to fulfill their potential
- Take an active role in promoting systemic changes benefiting women and girls
- Be recognized by her peers/associates for “best practice” in diversity, gender equity and in leading others
Nomination process
To be considered for the Margot Franssen Leadership Award:
- Women must be nominated. Women can be nominated by anyone.
- Nominees are required to agree to the nomination
- The Nominator is responsible for submitting the nomination packet, and must be available for follow-up inquiries by the selection committee
- Applications must be completed and postmarked by January 1 of the nomination year for consideration
Incomplete or late nominations will not be accepted. Completed nominations packages should be sent to:

An independent judging panel made up of business and community leaders will make the final selection.
For the nomination, please provide:
- Detailed information on the candidate's contribution, activities and result
- Relevant background and supporting documents
- A description of the specific project(s)/activities being submitted for recognition
- Auxiliary documents – a) brochures, press releases, newsletters, etc.; b) two letters of recommendation to support the nomination

| Rules and Regulations |
- The decision of the judges is final.
- All submitted entries are the property of Community MicroSkills Development Centre and may be used by MicroSkills for any purpose in connection with the Margot Franssen Leadership Award or its promotion.
- MicroSkills retains the right to publish the names of nominees and recipients.
- The complete mailing addresses of nominees and nominators must be included.
- Photos submitted as part of the entry cannot be returned and remain the property of MicroSkills.
- All nominees must be available to receive the award at MicroSkills’ Gala event held in May.
