Our History
  •  2009 — 2010
Registered as a Private Career College with MTCU. Opened new location in Brampton.
Began new JSW program for Women and expanded LINC services. Began Green Economy project in partnership with Ryerson University. Provided trusteeship to Nia Centre for the Arts. Became operations lead for Rexdale ProTech Media Centre. Launched Women in Transportation program, training women as truck drivers.
  •  2008 — 2009
Began new programs: Supply Chain Program, Host Program and Mentorship Program for newcomers; Modern Batik Art and Settlement Programs for Youth. Established MicroSkills Toastmasters Club. Opened Rexdale Action for Neighbourhood Change (ANC), part of United Way’s Building Strong Neighbourhoods Strategy. Awarded Scarborough Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award. Received COSTI’s 2008 Partner Award for Leadership in the Delivery of High Level Employment Services. Received Outstanding Service Provider Award from Tropicana Community Services.
  •  2007 — 2008
Opened new location in south Etobicoke to provide specialized services for women. Established MicroSkills Centre of Excellence for Women and Newcomers in east Toronto. Began Pathways to Employment for Newcomers (PEN) program. Established CH2M HILL Resource Centre. Received the TRIEC Immigrant Success (IS) award for inclusive Human Resources practices. Received Minister’s Silver Award for Excellence in Service Quality from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
  •  2006 — 2007
Expanded services to women and newcomers in North York/Scarborough, south Etobicoke. Expanded youth services: launched Bridge to Success program in partnership with North Albion Collegiate, organized youth exchange to Newfoundland, began Youth Employment and Local Leadership (YELL) program. Received the 2006 Minister’s Award for Excellence in Service Results (MAESR) from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). Developed 3-year strategic plan (2007-2010)
  •  2005 — 2006
Opened Job Connect for Internationally Trained Individuals. Partnered with Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) to deliver tenant engagement services. Established Women’s Leadership Award.
  •  2004 — 2005
Designated a Training Delivery Agent (TDA) for IT Apprenticeship trades by Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). Partnered with Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning (ITAL), Toronto District School Board (TDSB), Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) and the City of Toronto to deliver after school programs and the pre-apprenticeship project to immigrant and racial minority youth. Established West Toronto Women Services Network.
  •  2003 — 2004
Organizational review, new plan, new vision. Established Home Childcare Self-Employment program to develop culturally sensitive childcare services. Began Bridging to Technology program for internationally trained women, Opened JobTrack Centre.
  •  2002 — 2003
Opened satellite JSW (Job Search Workshop) program in partnership with Syme-Woolner Centre. Established new partnership projects: Dixon Neighbourhood Youth Centre and the Etobicoke Computer Access Project (CAP). CAP was designed to bring public access computers to immigrant serving agencies at 11 sites.
  •  2001 — 2002
Refined 5-year plan. Began delivery of TOEFL classes. Opened IT Resource Centre. Established Corporate Spirit Award.
  •  2000 — 2001
Began Job Search Workshop for Immigrants Program, ESL classes, Self-Employment program for immigrant women IT professionals. New 5-year strategic plan a service sustainability focus.
  •  1999 — 2000
Established Women’s Technology Institute. Developed pilot LINC curriculum for foreign trained IT professionals.
  •  1998 — 1999
Service plan modification. Opened Women’s Enterprise and Resource Centre (WERC) for immigrant and racial minority women.
  •  1997 — 1998
Relocation, refinement. Opened Employment Resource Centre with specialized services to immigrants. Began childminding services.
  •  1996 — 1997
Program/services restructuring. Business plan developed. Launched self-employment program for women. Became United Way member agency.
  •  1995 — 1996
Capacity building, organization restructuring/funding diversification. Strategic plan. Secured United Way funds towards service expansion.
  •  1994 — 1995
10th anniversary. Opened Career Resource Centre.Began apprenticeship access project for racial minority individuals.
  •  1992 — 1993
Commenced LINC classes. Delivered community workshops.
  •  1991 — 1992
Recognized as settlement agency by Ontario government – Newcomers Settlement Program (NSP) grant awarded.
  •  1987 — 1988
Relocation. Expanded training programs to serve immigrant and racial minority women.
  •  1984 — 1985
Incorporation. Began microfilm/office skills training for immigrant women.
