MicroSkills Youth Leadership Award Criteria
Eligibility

Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders!

MicroSkills’ Youth Leadership Award was created to celebrate and recognize the contributions and achievements of young people in our community and their impact in shaping the future.

  • MicroSkills Youth Leadership Award is open to youth between the ages of 17 and 29 who are (past or present) participants of MicroSkills’ Youth Program(s)
  • Award winners must agree to participate in a video program to be shown at the Awards Ceremony
  • Award winners must be able to attend the Awards Ceremony at MicroSkills Annual Gala
  • Award winners must agree to make themselves available for publicity purposes as required prior to and after the awards ceremony

Nomination process
To be considered for MicroSkills’ Youth Leadership Award

  • Youth can be nominated by anyone
  • Nominees are required to agree to the nomination
  • The nominator is responsible for submitting the nomination packet, and must be available for inquiries by the selection committee
  • Applications must be completed and postmarked by January 1 of the nomination year for consideration

Criteria:

All nominations will be peer reviewed, and an independent panel of judges will determine the winners using the following CRITERIA:

Outstanding Performance

  • Demonstrate outstanding performance while in MicroSkills youth program(s)
  • An active participant and committed to goals of the program

Leadership

  • Has demonstrated / is demonstrating leadership with other youth, either in MicroSkills program(s) or in the community.
  • Leadership skills may include initiative, dedication, integrity, acceptance of responsibility and teamwork
  • May be demonstrating commitment to affecting positive change and building bridges among cultures and community, either as a leader or volunteer

Post-Program Success

  • Has been successful in implementing what they learned in MicroSkills program(s), to reach personal or career goals, and/or make significant changes in life.
  • Is currently enrolled in a post-secondary diploma, certificate or degree program; or is accepted into a post-secondary program; or is registered as an apprentice; or is actively running a business

Overcoming Personal Challenges

  • Has overcome personal challenges and obstacles in achieving program success and/or goals and changes in life

Award Presentation:
The award winner will be honoured at MicroSkills’ Annual Gala in May. It is important for the award recipient to be available for the gala event. Representatives from the business community, government, media, and community attend the event.
